February Mood Board

February and love. It is simple and straightforward. It is a pairing we all know well. But do we really?

We all joke about Valentine's Day being a Hallmark holiday, but, frankly, it is. During the middle ages, Chaucer wrote a poem celebrating a royal engagement and the February celebratory feast, St. Valentinus, as February was when birds went in search of their mates in England at that time. Then, in February of 1415, the French Duke of Orleans sent his wife a letter while imprisoned in the Tower of London and called her his “sweet Valentine”. And that was it. A poem written, a letter sent, love declared - and we officially have a Hallmark holiday.

I don’t love Valentine’s Day (pun intended), but I don’t dislike it either. I am thankful enough to be in one of those nauseating relationships where we say every day is Valentine’s Day and we actually mean it. So, we don’t “need” it per se. But, I appreciate the opportunity for all of us to take a moment and acknowledge love for partners, friends, and family. In today’s world, I think we need as many moments to pause as we can get.

My February mood board inspiration came from words that I associate with February: classic, love, comfort, bright.

February mood board with tulle, images of Venice, flowers, pearls and comfy pajamas. Primarily pinks.

I was drawn in by the textures of waffle knit comfy clothes, the layers of a long tulle ballet tutu (because I was crazy enough to start adult ballet classes this year), classic pearls - which I am dying to do a project with soon, bright Valentine’s pink flowers, and finally, the comfort of places we find respite in. Whether home or abroad.

Whatever is inspiring you this February, I would love to see it! Reach out and share with me your February inspiration and I hope you are able to bring it forward in your creative projects.

Ciao!
